Information Lifecycle Management (ILM) for electronically stored files is a challenge
for most organizations. The preservation, retention and disposition of electronic
records will be costly if a company does not have a good ILM plan in place. ILM is

cost effective infrastructure from the time information is created through its final

Nexsan’s Assureon is designed to be flexible so it supports all forms of archive
storage technology, aligning it perfectly with the budgets and business objectives of
the company. Assureon helps companies with lifecycle management of valuable
business documents, which required secure long-term retention and disposition
management for legal and compliance purposes, assuring compliance with the
stringent security and auditing requirements mandated by industry and government
regulations, such as, SEC 17-4, HIPAA, CFR 21 part 11 FDA, Sarbanes-Oxley,
Privacy Regulations, etc.
Assureon ensures compliance is met by immediately writing to a minimum of two or
more permanent storage devices. Safeguards, such as file encryption, and audit trails,
ensure the integrity of the files. Then, based on established policies, Assureon will
delete the file from its original location as the file transitions from an active to an
inactive state. Nothing needs to be done when the file transition occurs because
Assureon is acting on the retention policies already in place when the file was placed
under management.
With the integration of TreTempo’s optical and tape library technology, Assureon
supports WORM optical, tape and tiered disk storage systems. WORM technology is
important for compliance reasons because once a file is written to WORM media, it
cannot be deleted. WORM, however, presents some unique problems for ILM
applications when a file must be deleted at the end of its retention period. Assureon
resolves this problem by using crypto shredding to delete files on WORM media.
What is important to understand about Assureon is that it can crypto shred a single
file from offline media, or from a protected piece of WORM media that resides in
nearline storage,while other files remain accessible until their retention periods expire.
The combine solution provides maximum network and physical security and business
continuity through the ability to mirror the Assureon appliance to secondary storage
archive and backup devices.
Assureon provides full support for offline media such as tape and nearline long term
archive media such as optical. Assureon along with TreTempo’s DVD, UDO and
Blu-Ray optical libraries with their 9GB DVD, 30GB UDO and 50GB Blu-Ray
optical media, storage has never been so cost effective, reliable and compliant.
