In today's world the process of records management includes many new challenges brought about by the increasing regulation and monitoring of corporate and agency data. Current IT environments demand solutions which facilitate this compliance while simultaneously delivering on-line access, WORM file attributes, and a reasonable Total Cost of Ownership.
PoINT Jukebox Manager meets these demands by using fast hard disk for performance optimization and reliable optical storage for long-term archiving. By using write once optical media for the archive, the information is not physically alterable.
In addition to established technologies such as CD, DVD and MO, new technologies like Ultra Density Optical (UDO), Professional Disk for Data (PDD) and Blu-ray Disc (BD) are now supported
Straightforward Integration
PoINT Jukebox Manager makes the integration of optical storage into an existing IT-infrastructure a straightforward process. The service generates a drive letter for the device on the server. This effectively represents the complex storage hierarchy. The complete file system (drive letter) or single subdirectories can be shared over the network by using Windows permission controls. Therefore, practically any application that can read and write to a shared network drive can archive data with PoINT Jukebox Manager.
Protection of your investment
PoINT Jukebox Manager uses UDF (Universal Disk Format), a standardized file system to write to optical media. UDF is supported by almost all current operating systems (Windows, Linux, UNIX). Therefore even a single Volume Set medium can be read outside of the jukebox. By using PoINT Jukebox Manager for data storage, the media remain portable, independent of the software and hardware manufacturer, thus protecting your investment, as well as your data.
Unlimited optical storage
PoINT Jukebox Manager offers an effective way to combine several media into one logical volume. These groups of media, Volume Sets, appear as a single shared file folder to the file system. Files and directories can be spread over these media using File Spanning. Additionally, an automatic copy of Volume Set media can be created. To fulfill safety requirements for the physical separation of disks, the copy can be created in a separate jukebox. As a cost effective alternative, it is also possible to create the duplicate in the existing library and export the disk to store it off-line (e.g. in a safe). This would eliminate additional acquisition or operation costs for a second running system.
